Story
A team from the Dept of Finance, Construction and Procurement Delivery are talking part in the Breast Foot Forward Walk. We all have been touched by cancer , with family, friends and colleagues who have been successfully treated and other colleagues who are undergoing treatment and on the road to recovery.
We have also sadly lost some family, friends and colleagues.
We walk also in their memory.
Action Cancer provides prevention, detection and support in NI. Through health promotion and improvement programmes, digital breast screening, health checks and support and therapeutic services, they help save lives and support people across Northern Ireland. They run awareness campaigns to highlight the signs and symptoms of the most common cancers and highlight factors which may increase the risk of developing a cancer.
Each year Action Cancer provides 8,000 breast screening appointments to ladies aged 40 -49 or 70+ from their clinic in Belfast and on board the Big Bus which travels to over 200 locations each year. For every 1,000 appointments 6 women have their cancers detected when it may otherwise have gone unnoticed. This service is completely free to the user but costs Action Cancer £120. Action Cancer receive no regular government funding and so we rely on raising funds through events like these to deliver our services.
We would really appreciate any and all support you can give us, every pound makes a difference, no donation is too small and is greatly appreciated.
