Story
Nola to Angola is an annual 170-mile bicycle ride fundraiser. Funds raised will support the long-term viability and expansion of the Cornerstone Builders Bus Project, which provides free transportation for people to visit their incarcerated loved ones in Angola and other penitentiaries throughout the state.
Louisiana remains among the most heavily incarcerated places in the world. Studies, experience, and anecdotal evidence all show that keeping families connected while family members are incarcerated helps them successfully reintegrate when they are released, and the Cornerstone program is one of the best, most direct ways I know of to do this.
This year, in place of our regular 3 day trek to Angola, I will bike 170 miles over the entire month of October. You can follow my progress towards completing my 170 mile goal on this page, and I've even started using Strava and I will begrudgingly participate in social interactions on that app if you want to keep up there.
I've been asked to raise $170 (one dollar for every mile I ride), but every dollar counts, so I've committed to raising $500, which is half of the cost of one bus. (edit: since we two-stepped our way right past that goal, and every goal, I'm currently aiming to raise $1,200 - the cost of a whole bus!) Nola to Angola remains entirely volunteer-run, so almost all of your donation goes directly to Cornerstone's bus program.
