Story
Over this academic year, I will be trying to raise £2,400 for the Meningitis Research Foundation. To hit this target, I will be running the London Marathon in October, and hiking 130KM to Everest Base Camp in September.
Meningitis infects 5 million people per year. In the UK, 92% of the population are vaccinated against Meningitis - we can easily forget about it. However, this is not the case around the world. Of the 5 million people per year who are infected by Meningitis, 1 in 10 die and 1 in 5 are left with lifelong impairments, such as brain damage. However, this no longer has to be the case. Meningitis Research Foundation, in partnership with the United Nations, has created a plan to eliminate Meningitis worldwide by 2030. I hope, through pushing myself to the edge this summer, I can raise £2,400 to help to eliminate Meningitis from the world.
You can follow my progress through my Strava updates, which is an app I use to track all my runs. After each run, I write a small amount summarising the run and I try to upload a picture.
What £2400 can do?
- 100 hours of research.
- 240 hours of support with a trained counsellor.
- 480 information packs for GPs and health professionals.
- 600 vaccines!
I would be so grateful if you could sponsor me for my challenges this year by donating a small amount towards the Meningitis Research Foundation using the donate buttons. For every £4 donated, another vaccine can be bought to prevent another life from being lost to Meningitis.
Thank you.
