Story
Hi everyone,
It's been awhile since my last charity challenge so I thought I'ld step up to the next challenge in November. Quite literally. On Sunday 7th November I'll be running up 1,512 steps (67 floors), climbing 935 feet for the charity Action Against Hunger (ACF). The climb dubbed the Twin Peak Challenge takes place in the CityPoint building followed by a quick run across the road to Broadgate Tower in the city, in a climb that is only 64 steps short of the Empire State Building run in New York. After following a training plan that totals 902 floors I'm hoping to complete the challenge in around 20 minutes after which I'm definitely getting the lift down!
A leader in the fight against malnutrition, ACF is a non-governmental, non-profit, and apolitical charity founded 30 years ago, that works to save the lives of malnourished children, while providing communities with access to safe water and most importantly sustainable solutions to hunger. http://www.actionagainsthunger.org.uk/what-we-do/programme-areas/
Global hunger now afflicts more than 1 billion people worldwide. Severe acute malnutrition threatens the lives of 19 million children. Every year an estimated 5 million children die from malnutrition-related causes. ACF's mission is to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, especially during and after emergency situations of conflict, war and natural disaster. From crisis to sustainability, ACF tackle the underlying causes of malnutrition and its effects by using their expertise in nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy. By integrating their programs with local and national systems they further ensure that short-term interventions become long-term solutions.
A donation of £10 (equivalent to 3 beers) will buy 1 week's supply of therapeutic milk, nutritional products, vitamins and medicine for a child.
A donation of £27 (equivalent to 3 Pizza Express pizzas) will buy one complete survival kit, necessary to save the life of a severely malnourished child in less than 4 weeks.
A donation of £36 (equivalent to a meal out) will buy one mechanical water surface pump.
A donation of any amount will be gratefully received, as every pound and penny goes a long way in helping children in the world who lack the basic necessity of food and clean water.
Thank you for your support!
