London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
Thanks for your support with my London Marathon 2021 JustGiving challenge!
I have worked as a physiotherapist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) since 2002. In that time I have been aware of the amazing fundraising that the National Brain Appeal has undertaken and the direct effect their fundraising has had for patients and many services. They have funded small projects and small pieces of equipment as well as funding huge projects - for example specialist theatres, the first brain tumour unit, an intensive therapy programme for people with aphasia and currently the refurbishment of the Neuro Rehabilitation Unit making it more accessible and comfortable for the patients (and their families) who require inpatient rehabilitation for many months. This demonstrates how their support goes directly to enhancing our services. They have raised over £8 million in the last 5 years and this is a great opportunity for me to support them in continuing with their fundraising.
Having run 1-2 miles, once or twice a week for 20ish years and then doing two half marathons when I had a mad moment on turning 50, I decided that if I really pushed myself in could run one marathon in my lifetime. I was so thankful to the National Brain Appeal for giving me a place in the 2020 London Marathon. After a COVID-19 delay of half a year a ‘virtual’ London Marathon took place on the 4th October. I completed it with 5 select supporters due to COVID restrictions (and got into the Guinness Book of Records……. Not so much for giving the elite athletes a run for their money, but because it was the largest virtual marathon in the world). Although it was a confirmed 26.2 miles and I got the medal and T-shirt; it wasn’t seen as the authentic experience… as it wasn’t on the iconic route and had no crowds! So my one and only marathon has turned into two. Thank you for all those who contributed to my Just giving page before, but if you are able to support me again, the money will be used well. All charities have been hit hard by lack of fundraising over the last 18 months and they need all the help they can get. Think of me on the Sunday 3rd October 2021- and look out for me on the TV!
Rest assured, this will be the last one!
Thank you!
