Story
Waterloo Uncovered is a fantastic charity that combines a world-class archaeological project at Waterloo with support for the military community.
Once more in July 2017, an international (Dutch, British, Belgian, etc.) team of archaeologists and serving and ex-serving personnel will go to the fields of Waterloo and combine their skills & experiences to uncover & understand the remains of the 200-years-old battle site. I am incredibly lucky to be part of that team.
Through its digs, WU helps veterans with welfare, transition and recovery. Archaeology offers opportunities to everyone no matter their ability or injury and all participants learn new skills, build confidence, and open up to new possibilities. The unique composition of the team also means that participants get to work with and befriend people that are widely different from them. This experience is eye opening and life changing.
I am reading, not only to remember those whose stories were created at Waterloo, but also to fundraise so that veterans and soldiers whose stories could not be more different from mine, can come on this summer's WU dig and share them with me.
