Story
I'm running my second 10k at the end of September to raise money for the Sheffield Scanner. The cause is aiming to raise £2 million in order to fund a ground-breaking MRI-PET facility in Sheffield. There are only 80 of these machines in the world, and the Sheffield Scanner will be one of very few provided for clinical use (i.e. for real patients), as well as for research.
An MRI-PET scanner combines both an MRI and PET scan to provide the most detailed pictures of the inside of the body available. With this knowledge we will be able to answer major questions about disease and identify faster and better ways to detect, treat and prevent ill health. This includes diseases such as:
Alzheimer’s disease
Cancer
Cardiovascular diseases
Diabetes
Infectious diseases
Lung diseases
Motor Neurone Disease (MND/ALS)
Parkinson’s disease
Stroke
Almost everyone has either been affected, or knows someone affected, by these diseases. Please help me raise money so we can help answer crucial questions about them, and ultimately help people suffering.
