We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Fundraising has become a bit of a habit. The Shine Night Walk Marathon will be the third Cancer Research event I have taken part in 2 years. I can't get enough. As some of you may know, when someone you love is diagnosed with cancer, you feel completely and utterly helpless. Raising money for Cancer Research makes me feel a little less helpless. Being part of something bigger than myself and being surrounded by thousands of others in charity t shirts makes me feel less alone. It reminds me that everyone is affected by cancer in some way. It stops me feeling sorry for myself and for my family. It lifts me up. Mum never wanted us to feel sorry for ourselves; she wanted us to fight. We fought very hard as a family for mum. In the end, it wasn't enough but that doesn't mean we should stop fighting for others. Mum had the most beautiful and magnanimous spirit, she would want us to continue the fight. So we'll continue to fight... for mum.

This time the money will go specifically to Lung Cancer Research. In memory of mum.  Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the UK. Each year more than 43,500 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK, and the disease claims almost 35,200 lives. Mum's Oncologist told us about a lot of promising developments in lung cancer treatments and I hope the money I raise will help make the new drugs more readily available for those needing them.

Thank you x
