Update

Faren completed the sponsored swim on the 29/06/2010. He completed 100 lengths front crawl without stopping (apart from some lucozade sport every now and then!). He isn’t used to swimming this kind of distance so it was a really good effort. The following are his timings:-

Start time 19:05

First 25 lengths – 625m completed at 19:21:30 – (split 16:30) elapsed 16:30

Next 25 lengths (50 lengths)  – 1.25 KM completed at 19:39:25 – (split 17:55) elapsed 34:25

Next 25 lengths (75 lengths) – 1.875 KM completed at 19:57:50 – (split 18:25) elapsed 52:50

Next 25 lengths (100 lengths) – 2.5 KM completed at 20:15:35 – (split 17:45) elapsed 1:10:35

So to summarise Faren completed 2.5 KM swimming front crawl in 1 hour 10 minutes and 35 seconds.

I would like to thank all the staff at Marl Pits who made this happen, the triathlon swimmers who let him have the lane to himself and also Chris who swam with him for the last few lengths.

I would also like to thank everyone who has sponsored Faren your generosity is phenomenal and will go towards a really great charity.

Faren's uncle Sacha was born with a hole in his heart and has had several operations since he was 6 months old. 3 months ago he had to go to London to have his aorta rebuilt. When they started the operation they discovered he was having an aneurism. Basically this meant his heart was bleeding and had he not had the operation he would have had a heart attack that would have killed him. Sacha is now getting much better you can see the improvements daily - he had a stroke and the surgeon told him the trauma he has suffered is like being hit by a juggernaut.

Faren wasn't able to visit sacha in London so he said he would like to do something to raise some money for his uncle. Faren is 9 years old and has decided that he will swim 2.5KM front crawl and this will take place at Marl Parts which is a 25m pool. For those of you not good with maths this is 100 lengths. Staff from Marl pits will confirm the lengths for Faren. If you could please sponsor him we would be most grateful. Faren will be doing the swim on 29th June at 19:00. He will be swimming with the tri-athletes who train on that night
