Story
I am completing my final London Classics event on 29th May 2022 when I undertake Ride London Essex 100 to raise much needed funds for MS-UK. Ride London Essex is a 100 mile “undulating” cycle race starting in central London, taking in various locations
in Essex, and ending at Tower Bridge.
In 2019, I completed the London Marathon and Swim Serpentine (which are the other two London Classics Events), raising £5000 for MS-UK in the process. COVID hampered my Ride London completion in 2020 and 2021, so I will hopefully manage it this year!
MS-UK is a national charity formed in 1993 who support the 130,000
people in the UK with Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system. MS is an auto-immune disease, where the immune system gets confused and instead of attacking an infection or virus, the immune system turns on itself and attacks the nerve cells, damaging this protective myelin sheath. This disrupts the ‘messages’ being transmitted from and to the brain, causing them to slow down, become distorted or not get through at all.
My mum suffered from MS and sadly died in 1992, at the age of 42, which obviously had a huge impact on my brother and I. MS isn’t a particularly well known illness, despite the 1 in 500 people it affects, and it doesn’t benefit from as much funding or publicity as other charities. MS-UK have therapy centres across the country, and they work tirelessly to empower people with MS to live healthier and happier lives.
If you're able to support the charity in any way, I'd be really grateful.
