As most people will already know, in February 2016 my Dad was taken into the Northern General hospital's critical care unit with 20% lung capacity, pneumonia and kidney failure as a result of catching Flu A. Not long after, he was put into an induced coma with a ventilator to try and save his life and for weeks it was very much touch and go. 5 weeks later he was back to his usual self, talking about cars and what family holiday we should go on next.

Whilst it is a complete miracle that he is okay now, he was left with acute kidney failure and after being on Dialysis for 8 months it was apparent that he needed a transplant. Thanks to my incredible, brave Mummy being a willing, almost perfect match this was possible. They are true sole mates and both continue to inspire me with their success everyday.

I can't begin to thank the amazing critical care team at the Northern General enough, all the kind and helpful nurses that cared for him so intensely everyday for 5 weeks and the outstanding doctors who could not have possibly done more for my family. To hopefully make a difference, I am going to walk 10k for 'Walk For Wards' in September with my sister Mariella. Please help us raise as much money as possible for the Sheffield Hospitals charity and in particular the critical care unit, the work they do is just phenomenal and they need all the support they can to make lives even better for patients.

I feel so lucky that I had the support of my amazing family and friends, but from being sat in the waiting room for 5 weeks, I saw so many people who had no one with them and were reliant on the nurses during the most difficult time of their lives. By giving to this charity, you would be helping them fund specialist equipment, research and patient and family support services. Last year has changed my life forever and I have them to thank that we were fortunate enough to get through it.
