Great North Run 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·
This year, I'm taking part in the Great North Run for Mummy's Star. A half marathon for me is a big personal challenge, I am not a natural runner! But it is nothing compared to the families who need ongoing support from Mummy’s Star.
The news of a pregnancy or a recent birth is an exciting time for all prospective and existing parents. However, it can be cruelly interrupted by the news of a cancer diagnosis and the worry that this brings to Mum, family and friends. Worse still, this could have also led to the loss of a pregnancy or baby. Every day 2 women are diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or shortly after birth. A cancer diagnosis is difficult at any time, the added pressures of pregnancy, looking after a small baby or grieving loss can be scary and isolating. Thats where Mummys Star comes in.Mummys Star believes that no one should have to go through this alone. They help families meet others in a similar position, offer small grants to relieve some financial burden, give support to partners and the wider family, promote awareness and support research.
