Story
Needles and hooks at the ready! The Edinburgh Knitathon is returning for its 3rd year in a row, and this year we’re supporting the wonderful charity Kids Loves Clothes.
This local Edinburgh-based initiative is dedicated to providing clothes for local families experiencing financial hardship, and so, not only will we be donating all monies raised, but we will be gifting all the knitted and crocheted items that we make during our 12hr non-stop knitathon.
However, while we’re a group of fairly speedy knitters, with our very own “Usain-Bolt-of-Knitters” Jess James-Thomson of Ginger Twist Studio setting the pace, we could really use your help!
We would love for you to come and knit or crochet with us on Sunday 15th September 2019 from 4-10pm at The Barrelhouse, 35 Smokey Brae, Edinburgh, EH8 7AA. The home of our weekly knit night, The Barrelhouse is a warm and friendly place with staff well used to a pub full of knitters! They have a great menu too, so if you fancy a bite to eat in between stitches, you’re sure to find something yummy to keep you going.
Some wool for the event will be supplied on the day, but if you have any Aran weight you would like to use or let another knitter use, please do bring it along. We will be knitting items from The Simple Collection by Tin Can Knits (http://tincanknits.com/
And, if you come along a wee bit earlier, you can join us at 3pm for a Dyeing Demonstration in the Ginger Twist Dye Studio at St. Margaret's House,151 London Road (studio 4.26 on the 4th floor, lifts are available) Edinburgh EH7 5AE. This is an amazing opportunity to witness the magic that Jess cooks up in her dye pots - the colourful alchemy that results in the yarn that we all love to knit & crochet with. Entry is by donation.
If, however, you are unable to join us on the day, or you are not a knitter/crocheter but you are up for supporting a worthy cause, please please do consider donating using our Just Giving Page, which you will find here: https://www.justgiving.com/
Our goal is to raise £1000 to accompany the garments and accessories produced on the day, and we can only get there with your help. We look forward to knitting, crocheting and celebrating with you as, stitch by stitch, we knit towards our goal.
