Story

Mission accomplished (or nearly!!)

We did it!

Yesterday the first tee shot was played at 5.20am as the sun made an all too brief appearance this summer. Fortunately, Wimbledon is a fair distance away & the rain stayed away for most of the day until patience got the better of  it & the heavens opened half way down the 68th fairway!!

Anyway, first and second rounds completed during the morning and we even managed to strike our drives on the 37th before mid-day - was this an endurance test or a race we began to wonder?

Anyway, the whole challenge was completed in just 13 and a half hours, ok a few balls lost but at least the bags were getting lighter as the day went on & as we walked off the 72nd at 7.20pm there was still a spring in the step, or at least until we made it to the 73rd.

A huge thank you should go to Marriott Hotel Tudor Park for their consideration and help and also to Jason King and his team for their generosity and organisation, without them, this would not have been possible and more importantly, Macmillan Cancer Support would not have benefitted from your fantastic generosity either - The course was in excellent condition and the greens despite the wettest summer for a long time, were incredibly fast as we found out all to often...

There should also be a very special mention to Lesley, to Maurice and to Ben for taking the time to give us moral support and joining us in walking round for a few holes, also to Meridian for taking the trouble to come out to film us for a few minutes - Gareth nearly repaid the cameraman by rolling his tee shot straight over the top of the hole, how good would that have been to get a hole in one captured for all to see?

Anyway, at 7.20 pm - 72 holes, 1300 shots and 13 hours later, the challenge was completed with cheers, high fives & a massive sense of achievement at having completed the challenge & the knowledge that we have all contributed to such a fantastic cause so thank you once again - it really is appreciated.

The site will remain open for a few weeks in case you would like to tell anyone about our achievement, donations can still be made retrospectively and it would be absolutely fantastic to top the 3,000 mark if only in the knowledge that the charity benefits even more so please spread the word as every pound counts.

Neil, Keith, Russ & Gareth

Quote of the day?

Walking off the 27th green, someone was heard to mutter those fantastic words of motivation, "that's 27 down, only 45 to go!!"
