I am walking the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William [96 miles or 155km] to raise awareness of this tragic illness.  Those who have lost someone close to them through Dementia will understand how traumatic the process is, as that person, who you know and love, slowly and inevitably disappear , bit by bit, every time you see them.  Their personality, identity and recognition of family and friends vanishes, leaving their loved ones clinging on to hope and of odd moments of recognition, flashbacks, smiles and the very occasional glimmer of awareness in their eyes.  It is a heart breaking moment when you realise that your parents dont know who you are anymore.

I know these days we are inundated with good causes, but I also know how generous my friends and family have been in their support of me, and for that I am truly grateful.  If you feel this is a cause close to your heart then please support this wonderful charity.
