“24 hour Martial arts marathon”

on 17 October 2026

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

24 Hours. One Dojo. One Incredible Cause.

On 17th October, we’re taking on one of the biggest challenges we’ve ever attempted at Gakusei Karate 24 hours of continuous martial arts to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity**.

From 11:00am on Saturday 17th October until 11:00am on Sunday 18th October, our Leyton dojo will come alive for an entire day and night of karate and martial arts.

But this challenge is about much more than training.

Why are we doing it?

As martial artists, we talk a lot about perseverance, courage, discipline and supporting others.

For 24 hours, we want to put those values into action.

Great Ormond Street Hospital cares for seriously ill children and their families, providing specialist treatment and support when they need it most.

We want to use our martial arts community to help make a difference.

That is why instructors, students, martial artists, friends and supporters will be coming together to keep the dojo active for 24 hours straight.

There will be sessions throughout the event covering different areas of martial arts, with guest instructors joining us and people of different ages, styles and experience levels taking part.

Some people may join us for one session.

Others may stay for several.

And some of us will be attempting to make it through the entire 24 hours!

Every donation makes a difference

You don't need to put on a gi or throw a single punch to be part of this challenge.

By making a donation, sharing this page or telling somebody about what we're doing, you are helping us turn 24 hours of martial arts into something that can have a lasting impact.

Whether you can donate £5, £10, £20 or more, every contribution takes us another step towards our fundraising goal.

And if you can't donate, simply sharing our fundraising page can make a huge difference.

More Than Just a Karate Club

One of the things we want this event to demonstrate is what martial arts should be about.

Yes, we train to become fitter, stronger and more capable of defending ourselves.

But martial arts also teaches us about **character, resilience, respect and community.

For these 24 hours, we're bringing those values together for a cause much bigger than ourselves.

There will undoubtedly be tired legs, aching muscles and some very sleepy martial artists during the early hours of the morning!

But whenever things get difficult, we'll remind ourselves why we're doing it.

For the children and families who face challenges far greater than 24 hours of training.

Please Support Our Challenge

If you can, please make a donation and leave us a message of support.

Then help us spread the word by sharing this fundraising page with your friends, family, colleagues and local community.

Together, let's see just how much good the martial arts community can achieve in 24 hours.
