Anne's Virtual Mount Everest Challenge

Anne's Climb Mount Everest Challenge · 1 February 2021
Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first people to climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, reaching the summit on May 29th 1953. Anne would like to follow in their footsteps and has set herself a challenge to virtually climb Mount everest! Obviously, as we remain in lockdown it is not possible to climb the real mount everest, so she will be walking the equivalent in our local area. She has challenged herself 5 days starting1st February 2021 to complete the 58, 070 steps it takes to walk approximately 30 miles to the summit.
Anne is completing the challenge for her 9 year old nephew, Joseph, who In 2016, at the age of 4,was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a muscle wasting condition, mainly affecting boys, and is caused by the lack of a protein called dystrophin. It is a serious condition that causes progressive muscle weakness and most boys need a wheelchair by the age of 11. Young men with DMD typically live into their late 20's, however because of vital research some are now living into their 30's and 40's. Although there are treatments that can help slow its progression, there is currently no cure.
The sponsorship raised will go to 'Joseph's Journey', a family fund with Muscular Dystrophy UK. Of all the funds raised, 80% will be given to MDUK for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and 20% will be saved for Joseph for specialist equipment, ie, hoists, wheelchairs and other adaptations he may need.
MDUK play a vital role in funding research into DMD to find treatments and hopefully a cure and this would not be possible without your kind donations and support. Words cannot express my gratitude to all those who choose to support and donate to this worthy cause.
If you would like further information please log onto www.musculardystrophyuk.org and you will find Joseph's Journey listed under family funds.
Thankyou so much for your support.
