Story

Ollie's family is raising funds as Ollie needs to access further treatment not available on the NHS to either keep the cancer from returning or clear the disease if his frontline treatment doesn't go to plan.

Our last update mentioned Ollie’s next stage of treatment in Barcelona called Omburtamab (8h9). Unfortunately, the plan for Barcelona to do the therapy has fallen through because of access to the drug, but MSKCC in New York are able to help and are willing to treat Ollie over there.

As part of the 8h9 protocol, it was recommended Ollie have a round of chemotherapy called IT. Unfortunately for Ollie, infections always occur after chemo so this week he has been in and out of hospital with a temperature spike..... and lots of horrible covid swabs which he hates more than anything!

Due to treatment plans changing, accessing Omburtimab(8h9) has required a HUGE amount of our funds (funds we had originally raised for the bivalent vaccine in New York). This now means our fundraising target has been increased significantly.

The plan for ollie is to have 8h9 in New York, then hopefully travel to Barcelona for more immunotherapy called hu3f8. This is a requirement if he is to access the vaccine trial afterwards. Unfortunately, the additional treatments that Ollie needs are not available on the NHS.

We have been told the cost of all treatments could be around £600,000!

We know the 8H9 treatment cost is £200,000 and the vaccine trial is around £240,000. The cost of the immunotherapy treatment is dependent on how many rounds of treatment Ollie will need, which the consultant hasn’t yet decided!

This is a staggering amount of money, but Ollie has no other options. The high five for ollie fundraising team is now thinking of ways to reach this new target.
