Story
Thank you for taking the time to look at my page.
Approximately 70,000 people in the UK (0.001%) and approximately 250,000 people in the US (0.0007%) have been diagnosed with 1 of 9 forms of Muscular Dystrophy, a group of diseases that cause muscle weakness and loss of muscle mass.
Recently, we received the news that the Myotonic Dystrophy gene has been identified within our family.
I have committed to take on the challenge of a marathon to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy charity organisation in aid of supporting Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Supporting Materials and Equipment, also the Research into Cures and Prevention.
I have no set target for the amount I'm looking to raise however, to give an idea - an hour of Occupational Therapy can cost anywhere from £60-£150 ($80-$195) per hour and wheelchair costs range from £2,000 ($2,587) to £17,500 ($22,700).
If I can even raise a few hours of therapy, it will make it all worth while.
To give a bit of background on my running - I've only ever done a 5k race previously so this will be a fantastic challenge to set myself whilst raising money for a great cause.
I will be running the Miami Marathon, February 9th 2020.
I really appreciate your time for reading and any donation, no matter what amount would be a great contribution toward a great cause.
