Story

Thank-you for visiting the Genki Gaijins #1 fundraisingpage

Oxfam Trailwalker Japan is one of the greatest team challenges in the world. Teams of 4 compete on a 100km cross country course through mountainous terrain in Japan, traversing 10 main peaks. The team of 4 has to stay together the whole way (there are 8 check-points to make sure they do). And there’s a 48 hour time limit for the event.

The distance is equivalent to almost two and a half marathons, with a total vertical climb in excess of 5400m (5.4km) and a total vertical descent of 4500m (4.5km) – the finish is almost 1km higher than the start !

For the 2 year in a row the Genki Gaijins have entered 2 teams in the event – but we’ve reshuffled the team members. The young speedsters will be Genki Gaijins #1, and the more mature members will be Genki Gaijins #2. We still intend to finish 1 and 2 overall, but Genki Gaijins #2 will start out a little more sedately, taking a few moments here and there to enjoy the superb views, so that we have lots of energy left for the arduous 2 half of the event.

Winning this race requires a great deal of dedicated training by the team members, and the unfailing support of our support crew – who meet us on route with food, drinks, and lots of smiles. But that’s the easy part !! The primary objective of the event is to raise money for charity, and that’s where you come in. PLEASE sponsor us. You can do so through this website by clicking on the DONATE NOW button either above or below this text.

Your donation will be used to support Oxfam’s programmes around the world to help end poverty, and provide much needed relief following natural disasters.

Please give generously to this VERY worthy cause, and help us achieve our fundraising goal. Any amount, large or small will be gratefully received and acknowledged. Whilst we'd prefer to know who donated on our behalf (so that we can thank you !), you may donate anonymously if you prefer.

From Robert, Andrew, Paul and Timo

P.S. "Genki Gaijins" is Japanese for "the cheerful, vivacious, irrepressible foreigners" – and we live up to our name !!!
