Her Justice Shift the Power Campaign

Her Justice Shift the Power · 31 January 2021 ·
Dear family, friends and colleagues,
As some of you know, I recently became a member of the Junior Advisory Board ("JAB") of Her Justice - an amazing nonprofit that provides free legal services to women and children living in poverty in New York City.
Her Justice has been an important part of my life for the last six years. Over this time, I have spent hundreds of hours representing Her Justice clients in family court matters in Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn, and, most recently, providing remote legal assistance to a client facing urgent legal needs in the midst of this pandemic. Her Justice's clients have been disproportionately impacted by current crises facing our nation and need our support today more than they ever have.
The Her Justice staff is working hard to ensure that its clients continue to receive the help they so desperately need, and the JAB is working hard to ensure that the organization has the resources it needs to continue providing these critical services. To that end, we have launched the Shift the Power Campaign with the goal of raising $500,000 by December 1, 2020. Every dollar donated to Her Justice results in $8 of free legal services delivered to Her Justice's clients.
The Her Justice Shift the Power Campaign is a commitment to advancing economic justice for women living in poverty in New York City, recognizing economic empowerment as a key factor in achieving gender equity, racial justice, and safety for survivors of intimate partner violence.
Simply put, economic justice is about power. Her Justice is advancing economic justice by providing free, critical legal services to women living in poverty who rely on the civil justice system for basic freedoms: personal autonomy, financial independence, and the chance to live free from abuse.
We may not be able to gather in person, but we can come together to bring about change. We can bring the community together toward a common cause.
