Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!
Whilst training for the event last year, I injured my wrist meaning that we couldn’t do the cycle as planned last summer. Thank you to all of you that have already donated, your money has already been donated to MIND. The good news is that we have finally got back to training and this August we will be completing the challenge: 600 miles of travel on our bikes in under a week!
The single biggest killer of men under 45 is suicide. In 2016, there were 5668 recorded in Great Britain. Of these, 75% were male.
41% of males who've contemplated suicide felt like they could not talk about their feelings.
In November 2017 I lost a good friend and learnt first hand how devastating the effects of mental health can be. Despite the growing rate of male suicides, mental health is still widely misunderstood. It's important that people not only realise that it's always okay talk about their feelings, but that everyone is aware of the people around them and the severity of this problem.
Jake Owers and myself will be travelling in excess of 600 miles by bike this August in order to raise awareness and highlight the extremity of the problem. We will be cycling from Essex to Amsterdam, on a route that will take us through France and Belgium before arriving at our destination in the Netherlands. All of the money raised will be donated to the mental health charity Mind: a charity that campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding for mental health.
