I'm taking on the Aspire Channel Swim (again!), swimming the distance of the English Channel – 22 miles, over 12 weeks to raise money for Aspire - with Janet.
I suffer from scoliosis and together with the resultant siatica causes me back pain and mobility issues sometimes, although temporarily mostly. It nearly costed me my university degree, and have changed my childhood aspirations away from various physical endeavours. While I am not in a wheelchair, for which I'm grateful, and able to lead an active life, I empathise deeply with those who suffer from more severe spinal problems whether due to genetics or injury.
In the UK alone, there are on average 7 spinal cord injuries a day. Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice and housing that spinal cord injured people need for independent living.
