London to Brighton 100km Challenge 2014 · 24 May 2014 ·

Young Epilepsy is dedicated to standing up for children and young people with epilepsy. We’re here for them. But we need your support because epilepsy is limiting the chances of thousands of children today and may continue to do so for the rest of their lives. Together we create possible.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am 62 years old and a founder member of East Grinstead Athletic Club. I have decided that the London to Brighton 100km could be my last event before I finally retire from athletics.

If/when I complete the 100km I would have undertaken 60m high hurdles indoors, most track and field events, 10k's, half marathons and 3 London marathons. However I generally only run 400m or less so 100km is going to be my biggest challenge to date.

I am raising money for Young Epilepsy. Young Epilepsy works to create better futures for the 112,000 young people living with epilepsy in the UK. They help children and their families cope with this terrifying and unpredictable condition.

Even when children have severe and complex epilepsy, or epilepsy with other conditions such as autism, and anxiety disorder, there is so much we can do to turn things around and create better futures. Young Epilepsy uses donations to help children with epilepsy reach their full potential.

All money raised will be put towards a special dye sublimation printer and heat press for the creative arts department at Young Epilepsy's College. The college offers students the opportunity to develop self expression skills, they learn to analyse their work, give their opinions, make choices, share and express their feeling and they make stunning art pieces! Creativity is used as a way of relaxing and many gain vocational qualifications too.

The department is continually looking to develop its curriculum and provision. An exciting DIY project involving students and staff is underway to transform a classroom into an art gallery and shop to enable students to learn about enterprise in real life situations. As part of this they will develop work and communication skills, team work and technical skills through art exhibitions and sales of their work.
