Greetings, I hope you and your family are safe and well. It’s my birthday –and I have a singular wish that you can make come true. It’s all about art, of course. Please celebrate with me with a gift to Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts, where my heart (and board service) have been dedicated for the past 12 years. Throughout my long career, many of you have touched my life and I have touched yours and when I think of the thread that connects it all, it is the community. Watershed is about community.
What drew me to this unique organization are the intimate, non-hierarchical residencies for artists from around the country and the world--working in clay. Situated in Maine, with nature abundantly present, Watershed offers a powerful combination of time, space, and community to emerging and mature artists. By providing an environment that sparks creativity and connection, the “Watershed magic” happens--transforming artists’ lives and work—like it did for mine! And it’s been doing so for more than thirty years.
Additionally, Watershed makes art accessible to diverse audiences in the region—especially teachers and their students—through workshops, public talks, community events and educational outreach.
Each year, one-third of our operating expenses are funded by generous supporters, who help us to provide art-changing and life-changing experiences for artists at all stages of their careers. This year we all faced the horrific challenge of a public health crisis so now more than ever, your gift will have exponential impact.
I am so thankful for everyone in this community that I have worked with for over 40 years. With a new year and a birthday fast approaching, I hope you will join me and the community of Watershed with a generous gift.
