Fundraising for Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Story
All money raised is to go to the orthopaedic ward at Aintree hospital NHS
Following a cycling accident I had in July last year, I was treated by Aintree Hospital orthapedic Ward. overall I spent 10 days in 2 hospitals and had a 3 and a half hour operation. I was extremely impressed with the care and treatment I received.
Over the last 10 months I have made several after-care visits and have always been treated by passionate dedicated staff.
In particular, my surgeon Miss Stevenson went beyond the call of duty. She took it upon herself personally to give me the best possible attention, insisting on a difficult, specific, unusual operation to repair complex scapula, collar bone and shoulder damage. Further damage such as several broken ribs and punctured lung were left to heal naturally.
Other surgeons elsewhere had chosen to simply let all of my injuries heal themselves over time, rather than undertake such a complex operation. Without this I would have had lifelong problems with my shoulder and would not even be able to put my own shirt on.
This fund-raising ride is my way of saying Thank-You to all of the staff at Aintree hospital.
The nhs is 70 years old this year and I believe it needs are help ,so please give generously.
I decided to attempt this ride to help motivate myself back to fitness and to give myself a goal to aim for and think about when I was really unwell.
We will be doing this ride on Sunday July 1st 2018.The ride is approx 220 miles and I expect it to take around 18 hours, provided we don't get lost.
My good friend Tim is joining me as the wife said your not doing that on your own and also he's the only fit bloke I know who would attempt it with me.
