Fundraising for Save the Children
Story
Hello everyone...
Firstly the photo is of me and Julio (having a sand fight), the village he lives in relies on money from Save the Children to survive - they supply the village with water purification tablets, school equipment and food...
Anyway...
Believe it or not, I am running a half marathon in October! I have quit smoking, started running and wierdest of all I am really enjoying it!
I am raising money for Save the Children, a charity for whom I have a lot of respect. I became good friends with the Save the Children team in Nicaragua, did some work with them and really admired the work that they were doing out there.
What I particularly like about Save the Children is that they use the money they raise to buy sensible things like mosquito nets and rehydration sachets to help save children's lives. They work all around the world including the UK. Just to give you an example of what can be done with the money donated to Save the Children here is what your money can do:
£1 will buy a basic hygene kit.
£5 will buy materials to enable a child to go to school.
£10 will buy materials to help tackle bullying in a school in the UK.
£20 will buy high-nutrition food for a malnourished child for 1 month.
£25 will buy 40 hens which can provide nutritional food and income.
£50 will buy 6 goats which can generate income and supply milk, cheese and meat.
So much can be done with such a little amount - think of it as one less meal out, or one less bottle of wine; an amount that is fairly insignificant to us could help save children all around the world.
By donating money through GiftAid it increases your donation by up to 28% - every penny counts!
I am trying to raise £1000 so I will be holding a few events throughout the summer and doing lots of fun things, which I will tell you about closer to the time.
