Story
With only 12 weeks until the marathon, I took up the offer of a last minute place to run for the MS society. I am excited and terrified but delighted that it gives me the opportunity to raise some money for a charity which supports a good friend who is suffering from MS. So the training won't be pretty but I know that doing it for someone who has had a really tough time, is what will keep me going. Please do read Jonno's story, and dig deep. Anything helps to raise awareness of this disease which affects so many people. Thanks x
Jonno's story
A good friend, Jonathan Hamilton, has been suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for the last few years. He is only just 40 and has a young family with 2 boys, Freddie (6) and Harry (4) - the same age as my own. He's had a challenging time as his MS has progressed, and to watch the way that he and his wife have dealt with it, has been simply inspirational. Living with 2 young boys is trying (!); throw MS into the mix and I honestly don't know how they do it.
Jonno's day-to-day living is now affected, he can't drive, he can get tired very quickly, his eyesight is not good and he has to walk with a stick. Last year he underwent ground-breaking stem cell replacement therapy at the department of Haematology at the Hammersmith Hospital and time will tell how successful this has been. All he wants is to be able to play with his boys like he used to...to join in that game of rugby!
