Story

Hello everyone, Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! My names Hannah, I have decided to help raise money and create more awareness for Jos Cervical Cancer Trust.

What is Jos Cervical Cancer Trust?

Jos Cervical Cancer Trust is the UKs leading cervical cancer charity. Their mission is to see cervical cancer prevented, to see less people diagnosed and reduce the impact for everyone affected by cervical cell changes (abnormal cells) and cervical cancer through providing the highest quality information, support and campaigning for excellence in cervical cancer treatment and prevention.

Why im raising money for this Charity?

I have choosen this charity as they help to support people who have been diagnosed with cervical cancer. They have a 24/7 helpline, an email service aswell as websites to speak to people and share information about cervical cancer, the cervix, HPV, HPV Vaccine, cervical cancer screening, colposcopy, cell changes (abnormal cells) and living with cervical cancer.

As a women myself I find it so important to make sure you always attend your smear tests and if something doesn't feel right in your body that you should always go and get it checked out.

When i turned 25 i got invited for my first smear, when my results came back i got told to come back for a second smear as my first smear had detected the Human papillomavirus (HPV). At first when i read the letter i got quite upset and very worried as i thought it was really bad news. Before attending my second smear i had a look on the Internet and after reading up about HPV and how it can be passed on through sexual contact, it made me feel even more worried and actually embarrassed. I did more research and had a leaflet about Jos cervical cancer from a previous friend, this gave me more information and made me feel more at ease as there website also showed me lots of more information and stories of women just like me. When i went for my 2nd smear it showed i was low-risk HPV but still this resulted in me going for a 3rd smear 3 months later to check everything was ok and no changes was made to my cells. On this smear nothing dramatic had changed and all was ok but as there was no changes i got an invite back for a 4th smear which was 6 months later, this smear had shown the HPV virus had gone and my body had fought of the virus. It was such a relief and i was so glad i had read all about Jos cervical cancer trust online, it gave me reassurance and i learnt how common HPV is and vital information.

I unfortunately know 2 beautiful women who have passed away under the age of 30 to this awful disease. So i feel my way of helping is to spread as much awareness as possible and help prevent this from happening.

Did you know that Nine women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every day and 220,000 are diagnosed with cell changes, often needing treatment.

Trek to Petra

After recently hearing about this trek to Petra in aid of Jos Cervical Cancer Trust i thought it would be a great way to join in and help promote their charity and do some fundraising, especially with the past year of being in a pandemic.

So May 2022, I will be taking part in a 5 day trek across the desert in Petra, Jordan. The Trek to Petra Challenge is graded as Challenging and the journey consists of:

  • Trekking through the most exhilarating and rugged landscapes in Jordan
  • Trekking an average of 6-9 hours per day
  • Trekking in high temperatures 30°C approx
  • The maximum altitude reached is 1100 metres above sea level
  • Trekking through and camping in remote areas where facilities are basic

My aim is to raise £3000, so I have set this page up to get me started. I will also doing some events in my local community to help raise more funds and spread awareness.

Many thanks
