On Sunday 6 October Harriet and myself will be running the Chester Metric Marathon to help raise money for “The Movement Centre”.

The Movement Centre is funded through charitable donations to maximise the potential of children’s movement through Target Training. This can completely change the lives of the many children who visit them with movement disabilities. Targeted Training helps them move more naturally, so that they can gain essential functional skills. It gives children and their families a chance at greater independence and a new lease of life.

A yearly Christmas tradition, we have, is writing in ‘The Book’ This includes predictions of what we think the following year has in store for us. We also include a ‘bucket list’ of things we want to achieve. Without fail every year we include ‘Run Half a Marathon’ and every year we find an excuse not to do it, and it just rolls over to the next year…

Both of us have dabbled in a bit of running in the past. We have run the Shrewsbury 10k twice and also taken part in the Red Bull “Wings For Life Run”. Every time we sign-up we are filled with enthusiasm and start to train. We say to ourselves ‘right, we are motivated and ready lets, make that half marathon happen’, and it never happens. Somehow the prosecco and pizza get us!

This year there are no excuses.  Granted we have only given ourselves four weeks to train and its more than half a marathon – we don’t make it easy for ourselves. However, we are determined this time to support
this great charity. A charity which has unfortunately just lost all of its NHS funding, due to cuts. Now it needs to find all the funding to continue to support the children who gain so much from the Movement Centre. Any additional support they can get to raise funds will mean they don’t have to turn away families that desperately need help.

Many children who visit us have a disability that affects their movement control. Targeted Training addresses these issues. Consequently, a course of therapy can help children to gain essential functional skills. Gaining these skills can make a child far more independent. As a result, this can completely change their lives.

Due to NHS cuts we now have to support towards the costs of all of the children who come to The Movement Centre, which has put increased pressure on our finances and we need your support to help us raise additional funds, so we don't have to turn away families that require our services. Your donation will have a direct impact on The Movement Centre's ability to help children.
