Story
In July 2015, a devastating fire swept through the newly Fairtrade Certified MACDESA mining community in Peru. It caused catastrophic damage to over 300 homes and the infrastructure in the community. Two classrooms at the school were destroyed, along with a range of other vital facilities that have resulted in the school being closed. Fortunately, there was no loss of life. Women and children have been sheltering in the church, auditorium and the few houses that remain standing.
Our event, "Miles for Miners", is to fundraise for the CRED Foundation's Disaster Relief Fund to help repair and rebuild the damage sustained by the MACDESA mining community.
As a team at HKBespoke, we will be covering 1,554 miles between us (equivalent to the distance across Peru) over the two weeks that Fairtrade Fortnight runs (29th Feb - 13th March 2016). This will be through various means, such as cycling, jogging, walking etc - all with the aim of raising money for this vital fund to help the community rebuild.
Any sponsorship donations are welcome and hugely appreciated by us all and will make an incredible difference to the MACDESA community.
Thank you,
