Story

On May 19th me and me Da are running the Hackney Half for Homerton Hospital's damn fine IBD ward!

As some of you will know my lovely bae Han lives with Crohn's disease.

Getting to remission through 4 years of working on creating a whole new diet, infusions and medication, and a massive scary instensive surgery was the hardest thing she (and we) have been through, so what's a little jog in comparison?

Seeing as we're not actually runners (lol) there's a strong likelihood that in our sub-prime states we'll only just make the 13 mile mark, and an even stronger likelihood that we'll be in the pub afterwards...

Serious stuff below, please please get in touch if you want to talk about Crohn's, IBD, chronic illness and mental health in general, and get out and enjoy the sun!! xoxoxox

4 years ago Han was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease.

Crohn’s is different for everyone which makes the first few years particularly challenging, working hard to find the right diet, learning to understand a complex set of symptoms and constant monitoring to prevent flare ups.

Over 50% of people with Crohn’s or Colitis require intensive surgery to remove affected areas, something that only really hits home when you consider that it’s part of your body that is in use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Surgery can present a massive change in people’s lives, but the success of remission and maintaining the highest quality of life lies in the on-going care.

Homerton Hospital's IBD ward provides all of this in the most welcoming, comforting and personable way. Without this incredible service and the amazing, resilient and warm staff there would be many, many people not able to face the uphill struggle.

Your generous donations will go towards:
    - Improving facilities in the IBD ward
- Simple but vital equipment upgrades
    - Supporting the nursing staff who support Han and many others on a daily basis

The smallest improvements make the biggest differences to the time that people spend on the ward, so please donate if you can!
