Story
In April I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Stand-By-Me, a bereavement charity in North Hertfordshire and Stevenage that has been helping to change lives for over a decade. Stand-By-Me offers information and support to not only children and young adults, but also families to help them with coping with the death of a loved one.
As an ICU nurse, I am no stranger to seeing families deal with heart-breaking losses and those moments stay with me long after my shift has ended. Working so closely with people at the end of life has shown me how deeply grief can affect individuals and families, and how vital it is to have the right support in place when they need it most. It has shown me that grief extends far beyond the hospital walls and can stay with families for long periods of time.
The money raised will allow the dedicated trained teams at Stand-By-Me to run a variety of group sessions, provide telephone support and work alongside local schools to ensure everyone has the access to the support they need, so that no one has to go through grief alone.
Any donation, big or small will be massively appreciated and will allow this amazing charity to continue its dedicated hard work and continue to provide support for people when they need it the most. Completing this run is my way of honouring the patients and families I’ve cared for and allow me to try and give back to a cause that helps others find strength and hope in the hardest of times.
Thank you for all of your support!
