We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page......my 6 Month Challenge

My 1stMarathon(April) – 26 Miles

Then 16 Weeks Later…….

My 1st Olympic Distance Triathlon (Mepal Lakes 16th Aug 2009)

1.5km Swim in Open Water (Eqviliant of 60x25m Lengths)

40km Bike (24 Miles)

10km Run (6 Miles)

I have now completed both parts of my double challenge...I finished My Triathlon on Sunday 16th Aug in a time of 03.03.39 and throughly enjoyed the experience.....

I have recieved great support from loved ones and friends, without them none of this would have been achievable. Special thanks to a certain someone who has endured the last 8 months of my constant talk of training, aches, pains and long training sessions....thank u x

I finished my first marathon in 04.30.35 only 16 weeks ago, its been a tough few months but every step of it was worth it, I am proud to have done it for such a worthwhile cause and hope that the fantastic donations recieved from friends will make a difference.

'Bethan-May was born 12th July 1999 with a very rare skin condition.  In March 2001 she was diagnosed with Glomuvenous Malformations (GVM). This was the first GVM diagnosis for GOSH, and also the first in the UK.  Since then they have diagnosed 14 other children. The Dermatology team at GOSH are truly amazing, with their constant determination, dedication, support and drive to network worldwide, share and learn from others about GVM.

GVM has many presentations and Bethan-May is ticking a lot of the boxes. When born she had 25% coverage, and now at the age of 9 she has 75% coverage.  Her skin has purple vascular lesions from head to toe which make skin temperature control difficult. She has experienced pain and discomfort since birth, which increases with progression of GVM. It is now behind her eyes, which is of great concern.  She has been on oral chemotherapy since January 2008.  This is yet again a first for a GVM patient but we are hoping it will give some management until research can give more answers and control. Since having oral chemo for 1 year it has stopped the progression but now need to find the next plan to remove the lesions behind her eyes hopefully by the end of March 09. Research is the only way forward now for Bethan May who is now on crutches to walk because of the pain'.

I really hope that you can support me in my challenge and help me to reach my fundraising Target.

Thank You x
