Thanks for taking the time to visit Heather's JustGiving page.
Some people are scared of bats, but Heather thinks they are really special and need protecting. They are the only true flying mammal and their hands have evolved into wings!
Heather's love of bats started a couple of years ago, at the age of 5, when we read "The Bat Book" by Charlotte Milner (all of her books are superb, by the way!) We went bat watching at the local church during lockdown - quiet evenings and no early start for school was perfect! Lockdown certainly had its positive side occasionally. We also attended some of the webinars on bat identification and the online bat walks. She often writes about bats for school (and talks about them A LOT) and has educated her teachers on echolocation, detection and species identification. We even made a special trip to the Parke Estate whilst on holiday in Devon, just to find some horseshoe bats - she (and we, I have to confess) were thrilled to see so many.
Bats are magical but misunderstood creatures. They face a range of threats from persecution to habitat loss. The Bat Conservation Trust is working to secure the future of bats in our changing world.
