Story

Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

In November 2013, I will be embarking on a challenge to raise funds for a remarkable charity.

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) treats over 200,000 children every year and several years ago my cousin’s eldest son, Oscar, spent a large amount of time there receiving treatment for Leukaemia.Sadly he lost his 2 year battle to this disease in 2006, just weeks after his 5 birthday. Both he and his family received fantastic support and care at GOSH so I would like to help raise as much money as possible to help this extraordinary charity on behalf of Oscar.

My challenge is to trek 100km in 5 days in the Sahara Desert. It will be hot during the day (around 35c) and cold at night (around 5c), I’ll be sleeping in a Bedouin tent, wash facilities will be very basic and there will be a lot of sand that will no doubt get into everything!

I know that you are being asked to donate money all the time but I would be very grateful if you could dig deep and donate to this incredible charity.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me. Once you donate, your money will be sent directly to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

So go on, click on ‘sponsor me now’! I want to raise at least £2000 for GOSH, if not more, so that it can continue to help sick children throughout the UK and I need to do this BEFORE I go otherwise I cannot participate in the trek.

Thank you so much in advance for your generosity and support.

Helen

p.s. If you need a little more persuasion, this is what your money will look like:

£20 will buy four special neonatal masks, small and delicate enough to fit a new born baby’s face

£35 will help towards the cost of an operating microscope for one of our surgical theatres

£50 will pay for five nights up keep for one of our patient accommodation rooms

£100 will buy four toys specially adapted for the children to help with their rehabilitation

£500 will buy a respiration monitor to track a child’s breathing

About the charity
