Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

**Update**

Cycled 350KM in 6 days last week for the people of Ukraine and thank for all your support.

I am sure like me you are horrified by the devastation in Ukraine, so I will be using my holiday next week to fundraise for the disaster relief charity - Shelter Box.

I will be cycling the King Alfreds Way - 350KM in 6 days from Petersfield, along the South Downs, past Stonehenge, around Salisbury Plain, up onto the Ridgeway, back to Reading, Farnham and then back to Petersfield.  This is a route set up by Cycling UK last year www.cyclinguk.org/king-alfreds-way

Shelter Box is a disaster relief charity based in Cornwall and provides tents, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disaster. I have personally met some of the Shelter Box Team at their fundraising office in London and also seen some of the boxes which they send out to disasters, filled with tents, blankets and essential cooking kit - so all their boxes will be essential at this time.

Please help me in raising as much money as we can.

£7 will provide a blanket

£30 a kitchen set

£69 a shelter kit

£385 a tent

Information from their website about Ukraine:

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE CRISIS IN UKRAINE

1. Millions of people in eastern Ukraine have been severely affected by an ongoing conflict that began in 2014 when Crimea was annexed from Ukraine.

2. Before the recent escalation in conflict, the UN estimated that 2.9 million people in Ukraine were already in need of humanitarian assistance.

3. According to the UN Refugee Agency, before the latest increase in violence, nearly 1.5 million people were internally displaced within Ukraine, with half being over the age of 60 – making it one of the ‘oldest’ crises in the world.

4. Since 2014, Ukraine has been the target of multiple cyber-attacks, some resulting in devastating power blackouts affecting thousands of people.

5. Winter temperatures fall as low as -8 °C in Ukraine, causing even more challenges for people caught up in the conflict.

We are deeply concerned for families in Ukraine fleeing their homes in below freezing temperatures. That is why we stand with the UN in calling for peace and the protection of civilians affected by the crisis in Ukraine and critical basic infrastructure and services.

I'll let you know how I get on during the week and any money raised will go directly to the charity via this Just Giving page.
