CHUMS has been supporting families bereaved by suicide for many years. Due to a large increase in the number of suicides in March & April, we are in desperate need of an additional member of staff to support the families at this devastating time.

Story

I am going to be running 230 kilometres through Europe's last remaining wilderness in northern Sweden. This will be a self sufficient event; carrying all food, equipment, and medical provisions over 5 days of racing in temperatures that can reach as low at -40 degrees Celsius.

I am raising money for the Bedfordshire Suicide Bereavement Service as they provided invaluable support to my mum, brother, and I in the aftermath of our dad unfortunately taking his own life. This period of time was the biggest whirlwind of emotions and the team at BSBS were instrumental in helping us get back on our feet. Without them, I don't know how we would have weathered the storm.

This is an incredibly small group who provide outstanding support and the money raised will be directly felt by those in the community who need it most.

Thank you in advance for your donations and support. It means a huge amount.

Summary from BSBS:

With the addition of another member of staff, we will be able to be more effective and available to support bereaved families. We are struggling to provide sufficient and immediate support to the families and close networks. It is now far too big a job for one person. With more hours, we can also start to provide more prevention support in schools. The Bedfordshire Suicide Bereavement Service offers support from an experienced practitioner through the initial weeks when everything else feels too difficult and confusing. This support is not therapeutic but a 'holding' hand at a time when things feel really tough. The practitioner may help with practical issues such as offering support with regards to the inquest. Your donation will help to fund the BSBS service and continue to give families the support they need during such a difficult time of their lives.
