More than 10 million people have fled their homes to escape conflict in Ukraine. Leaving behind jobs, belongings and loved ones, they need shelter, food and water. Donate now.

Story

Hi Lo Singers is fundraising for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. We have spent the last couple of weeks collaborating with Ukrainian singers, Bohdan Prutyla and Ihor Kolomiyets, who trained at Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv, on two traditional Ukrainian folk songs.

We are releasing Evening Star, arranged by Ukrainian composer Leontovych. Evening Star tells the story of a miraculous end to an invasion by foreign armies. The solo part is sung by Ihor Kolomiyets, a Ukrainian baritone who studied at the Academy and is now studying conducting in Austria. His family have had to abandon their family home in Ukraine and move to the countryside.

The second song is another Ukrainian folk song, Farewell, Village. Jonathan Rathbone, ex-Musical Director of The Swingles and a regular collaborator of ours, has written a new arrangement for verses 2 and 4 of the piece. Leontovych (who also composed Carol of the Bells) arranged verses 1 and 3.

We'd be very, very grateful if you would consider donating to this extremely worthwhile cause.
