Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On the 14th & 15th August 2020 alongside my cousin Simon Glenday I’m going to be cycling the length of the Ridgeway in 2 days (approx 50 miles each day) starting in Avebury and finishing in Ivinghoe.
I’m undertaking this challenge to raise money for a charity very close to my heart - the incredible Thames Valley Air Ambulance. In November 2016 I sadly lost my Dad, Nick Sanderson. The August prior to this, the TVAA saved his life and gave me and my family some additional precious months with him. I’m incredibly grateful for what they did that day and I’m determined to raise as much money as possible to show this. Each call they attend costs them over £3000 and as a charity they rely 100% on public donations with no national lottery or government funding.
I first did this challenge 10 years ago and I couldn’t think of a better way to honour his memory than cycling the same trail I did with him all those years ago. I’m far from peak fitness and alongside old injuries that play up every now and again I’m definitely not going to find it easy (alongside the fact that I’ve barely touched my mountain bike in the last 5 years!)
As well as the amazing work TVAA provide on a usual day (strongly advise you to visit their website) - during Covid 19 they have taken on extra roles and had to adapt to these challenging new circumstances. As well as continuing to provide pre-hospital care, the paramedics and doctors have also been supporting their NHS colleagues in the fight against Covid by helping to treat the most severe cases.
Any donations at all will help the TVAA to continue to provide this life-saving service, which no one knows when they may need themselves. I know times are tough but please support me in any way you can and a share goes a long way.
