JOINING FORCES FOR BETTER MENTAL HEALTH

Tuesday 26th November, at 10am will see the start of two teams of six hitting the rowing machines in Hinkley Campus’ gym.  Each
individual will row for an hour before handing over to their teammate in a bid to raise money for two very worthy charities.

Stuart Venables of John West served in the Army for 24 years leaving in 2015, and has lived with PTSD ever since.  His constant struggle with anxiety resulted in him trying to take his own life last year and having since sought professional help, he wanted to channel his new-found
energy for life into something that was going to have a positive outcome, not only for himself, but others too.

“The idea came from a conversation with Tim Cruickshank of G4S” said Stuart.  “He helps behind the scenes at Mind, and has been a big driving factor with this event.”

“Everyone has been so enthusiastic about the event” said Stuart.  “We’ve had individuals from a host of companies involved within the HPC project volunteering to give up their time (and sleep) to raise awareness of mental health issues and raise much needed funds.  This has been so encouraging.”

Stuart hopes to raise £1500 throughout the row to donate to Mind, a mental health charity, and Children’s Hospice South West, HOST’s chosen charity.

There will be donation buckets throughout the event and an opportunity to win an Ipad, generously donated by John West, as well as a hamper and gin tasting experience kindly donated by Tolchards.

Stuart and his friends and colleagues are looking for all the support they can get, so please do pop into the campus and cheer them on.  If you can’t make it, please support them by making a donation today.
