Story

Olivia our youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at Christmas, aged 5.  Type 1 diabetes is an incurable auto immune condition where the body does not make insulin anymore (an essential hormone for transportation of sugar around our body).

In the short time since Olivia has been living with Type 1, she has had 1,260 insulin injections so we figure the least we can do is a few hours of pain running 14km on the cliff paths, scrambling in and out of the sea and swimming 4.6km on Saturday 8th September.

Diabetes Jersey support Olivia and other children with Type 1 in Jersey through the provision of a continuous glucose monitor. This is a little Bluetooth gadget inserted under her skin every 10 days which gives us a glucose reading every 5 minutes. This has dramatically improved her quality of life by not having to prick her finger several times a day and by helping us to keep her blood glucose within a safe range.

Diabetes Jersey fundraise to provide other essential services to people with Diabetes in Jersey that would be provided by the NHS in the UK. They are currently fundraising to provide a dietician and psychologist to help support families impacted by Diabetes.

We would be so grateful if you could spare any amount to help us reach our goal and support an amazing charity that is so close to our hearts.  ♥️
