Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On 23rd September, myself, Andy, Ella and Rudy will be taking on the nuclear races Mud Run in aid of Orla Tuckwell.
Orla is the youngest daughter of my friend Naomi.
Last September, Orla was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour (a medulloblastoma) and after surgery, had been having intense, high dose chemotherapy in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
After months of intense treatment as an inpatient, she rang the end of treatment bell in April and was enjoying life back at home. She would have regular MRI scans every 3 months post treatment to make sure the cancer hadn’t come back.
In July 2023, just a week before her 3 month scan, Naomi and Adam were given the devastating news that Orla had relapsed and unfortunately as it had come back very aggressive, surgery wasn’t an option and there was no longer a cure.
Naomi and Adam decided to try an oral chemotherapy which was to have minimal side effects and not make Orla too unwell. Their main priority was to spend as much time together as a family as possible.
After only 3 1/2 weeks, Orla sadly passed away surrounded by her family. She was 2 years old.
We’re taking on this challenge for Orla and all donations made go to her Brighter Future Fund for the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street.
Brain tumours are indiscriminate and kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer yet only 1% of spend goes towards research for brain tumours. Help us raise awareness for more families like Orla’s.
Thank you
Love Jillie, Andy, Ella and Rudy xx
