This June I will be completing my own My WALK IT Challenge, raising vital funds for Crohn's & Colitis UK. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. And the real number could be almost double that. I am taking part in this event to raise funds and support Crohn's & Colitis UK to help improve diagnosis and treatment, fund research into a cure, raise awareness and to give people hope, comfort and confidence to live freer, fuller lives. In February 2020 I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease after years of discomfort and inconvenient toilet breaks. On the 26th June at 09.00 I will be walking 10km from Malton Fire Station to Amotherby and back again. ‘10k, that’s not far’ I hear you say. Ok then. I will be doing this walk wearing full firefighting PPE and breathing apparatus weighing a total of 22kg. My target is to raise £150. That’s not a lot. That’s 15 people at £10 or 30 at £5. There’s no cure for Crohn’s disease, but with help from the money raised by my walk we can hopefully take one step closer to beating this disease.
