Story

‘The Wurth Three Amigos’ are work colleagues that have
formed a really close relationship while working for Wurth UK over the last 6 years; the team consists of myself (Anthony Hobson), Nathan Walker & David
Rowse.

We decided to take on this challenge after Nathan got
seriously into his running during lockdown, inspiring myself and David to get involved also; this lead to us wanting to work towards a fitness challenge. Nathan is the driving force when it comes to fitness and pushing myself and David forwards. David is the satnav as he completed this same challenge last year, leaving me the novice at both running and the Three Peaks; it’s a good job we are walking the peaks! So running and training have begun to build up our fitness for the 24-mile journey. Then, in chatting, it was suggested we should do it for a good cause.

We have decided to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks on the
3rd of July to raise money for PACT (the Parents Association of
Children with Tumours and Leukaemia) based at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Cancer is something that lot’s of families/friends are greatly affected by in their lives and is something very close to our hearts.

PACT charity is an organisation that helped to support my
family when I was a child going through cancer twice, here’s my story
(Anthony).

When I was 3 years old I was diagnosed with (Accute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) Just after my 3rd birthday I started what was described by the GP as a bad cold and my mum was given antibiotics, after a couple of months I didn’t get any better so my parents took me to the children’s hospital. Blood tests were taken to get to the bottom of the problem. Within hours my parents got the phone call to take me into hospital. They were then told I had leukaemia and needed a blood transfusion straight away. After what seemed like a year of chemo and radio Therapy treatment, things really started to look good; I was in good health and I was closing on my first medical milestone of 5 years from the start of treatment. I was now 7 years old and making up for lost time and enjoying life to the max; mum dad and older brother thought they could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Then, out of the blue at my 3 monthly check-up, bang, it was
back after 4 years and 2 months and I had relapsed with Testicular Cancer. They had to operate and start again; 2nd course of intensive Chemotherapy. I always kept a smile on my face and the ‘it’s not going to beat me’ attitude throughout the family. P.M.A (Positive Mental Attitude) played a huge part in the way we all think as a family; the support I have from my older brother, parents, family, including PACT, has got me to where I am today; at the age of 34, married to my wife, Kate, and we have a lovely 19 month old son called Quinn.

Thank you for reading our story and for us Three Amigos supporting each other on this journey, to raise some much needed money for such a great Charity as PACT, who support patients/families from all over Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and at times further afield.

Thank you,

Anthony, Nathan & David
