Every day in the UK twenty people die because of alcohol. It
can affect anyone, from any walk of life but alcohol harm is not inevitable.
With your support, change can happen faster. Alcohol change UK want to build a
future in which people drink as a conscious choice, not a default; where the
issues which lead to alcohol problems like poverty, mental health issues,
homelessness are addressed; where those of us who drink too much, and our loved
ones, have access to high-quality support whenever we need it, without shame or
stigma.
We feel very strongly about ‘Alcohol Change UK’ and would
really appreciate your support in helping to raise funds for such an important
charity that can change lives.
Jack’s Story
No one knows more than me and my family how devastating
alcohol can be to certain lives. Alcohol addiction
is an illness, and one that can destroy families. The impact an alcoholic can have on their
children, partner, family and friends is horrendous and far reaching. Only last year I lost my Dad to alcohol addiction,
after he battled his dependence on drink for a decade or so. Growing up with an alcoholic Dad was at times
extremely distressing and traumatic, all I ever wanted to do was help him, and
fix him. My Dad, Phil, would only have been 52 this
year, behind the illness he was a really good man, and he was far too young.
If I can raise just some funds to help families like ours, I
will have played my part in trying to help change the way we support families
impacted by addiction, and hopefully helped individuals to overcome the illness
of addiction before it’s too late.
Luke’s story
For me personally, I see alcohol as a substance that can
bring joy to our lives and really bring out who people are and provide us with
some of the best moments. However, I also realise that with everything good
there comes a consequence and with alcohol that consequence can become costly
not only to the drinker but the people surrounding them. My uncle was someone
who suffered from alcohol addiction, and although I didn’t really have too much of a
relationship with him as he died when I was very young, the impact that it had
on the people around me such as my mum, nan etc, was enough to make me aware of
the possible effects. To add to this, Jack being my best mate, I saw a lot of
the impact that it was having day-to-day almost and it was something that I
wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Therefore, I want to do this to raise
awareness to not only make people proud and but to support any sort of families
going through the same pain and help them be able to turn things around.
