Story
Hi everyone thanks for visiting my Just Giving page.
Starting on the 2nd May 2019 I will be taking 2 months off work to walk the Camino de Santiago. The Camino de Santiago is a pilgrimage to the tomb of St James in Santiago de Compostella, in Galicia, Spain. There are many different routes that are all part of the Camino, but I have chosen the Northern route (El Camino del Norte), which means I start my journey in Bilbao and have a 700km walk all the way across the coast of Northern Spain (have a look at the picture for the route).
I have chosen to do this not only as it is something I’ve always wanted to do, but also so I can raise money for an excellent cause! I was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 when I was 32 years old. In 2009 and again in 2014 my cancer returned. I have planned my adventure so that once I reach Santiago; I will have been in remission for
five years. It seems like the perfect time for such a personal challenge.
The Charity I have chosen to support is Breast Friends, Sutton Coldfield. They are a small charity, who works as a support group based out of Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. It is run by unpaid volunteers who have all been diagnosed with breast cancer. Their aim is to help local women with breast cancer through all the stages of their ‘journey’ by offering friendship, support, emotional and practical help. They also aim to raise awareness of breast cancer so that local people will seek diagnosis and treatment at the earliest possible stage.
If you want to know more, here’s a link to the charity’s web page: http://www.breastfriends.org.uk/
As I’ve said, this is a personal challenge for me, that I’ve always wanted to achieve.
Being able to do it for a good cause close to my heart makes it even more fulfilling. Thank you for taking the time to read through my page. All donations big or small are welcome!!
