Story

Jack’s Story:

This summer, to celebrate 10 years attending Disability Challengers play and youth schemes, Jack has set himself the challenge of walking 100km in 4 weeks (from 17th July to 14th August) as part of the international “Superheroes on Vacation” challenge. Though the British weather has presented a formidable challenge, he is well on track at 70km with 10 days to go! I can’t believe how much his fitness and stamina have improved in that short time, and he is showing great determination and positivity to get this done. It would be amazing if anyone feels like donating a small amount to this charity that, as always, is close to our hearts.

Challengers has been an amazing outlet for Jack over the past decade, starting out as a 6 year old in a new country, and still offering support and friendship now as he enters the last years of his youth. Like all charities, Challengers has been hugely affected by the pandemic, having to massively reduce services and even close down some centres as the funding deficit and increased costs started to bite. Despite this, they found ways to keep going, to keep providing their play and youth schemes, even under the stringent guidelines required by Covid protocols. Any amount you can spare would help them to carry on doing this for Jack and, more importantly, for other kids like Jack from families who are unable to pay.

Challengers’ Story:

Challengers is passionate about breaking down the barriers to play for disabled children and young people. They run inclusive play and leisure schemes across the South East for young people aged 2-18. Not only does this give disabled children a safe and welcoming place to play with their friends, it provides their families with vital respite. They operate a unique non-exclusion policy, meaning that no child will ever be turned away.

About the charity

All children need to play, but for disabled children it is essential to help them reach their full potential. Challengers provides numerous play schemes for disabled children from across the South East. However, there are hundreds of children missing out every day and your gift can help them play.
