Please see the new addition at the bottom of the page from my Dad

Firstly thanks for taking the time to click on this. As a friend of mine you may or may not have known my Dad but he is why I’ve come across this amazing place. I’m currently in bed nexts  to my Dad who is being looked after by the truly wonderful people at Ty Olwen. I know that words can’t actually describe fully what the staff here do but I’ll try to scratch the surface. 

Picture looking at your life and how you would like it to end and then imagine that it will be next week or next month that it is going happen. I presume you’re picturing something perfect with loved ones around, maybe at home or on a bed looking out over the sea with the sunset, or just something that fits for you. Unfortunately most people don’t get the chance to have everything so orchestrated and ultimately you spend your days in a hospital ward with stretched staffing and a lack of the personal touch that you’d have in your ideal scenario.

Well, my experiences this week have been my watching my Dad fighting his illness with the dignity and vigour that I’ve come to expect from a man who has carried me and my family on his shoulders his whole life. The staff at Ty Olwen have been unbelievable, their level of care is indescribable, My father, myself and my family  members have been hugged, counselled and loved by these people. When your days/hours are limited and you get taken into the garden to feel the sun hitting your face or you get to spend as much time with your family as you wish whilst seeing them being served dinner at the same time as you, or being brought a beer to go with the match on tv. I’ve seen that in the end it’s the simplest of things that bring so much happiness and nothing is too much for the staff here. The reason for a hospice like this is undoubtedly sad but the people who work here are truly heroic. I don’t say it lightly either. So as I sit in this bed, next to my dad bed I kindly ask that you consider supporting this wonderful place and it’s staff.

To all my dear friends and family, I send my sincerest thanks for the loving thoughts which you are sending out to myself and family this very difficult time. Please don’t consider this as being the end of our relationship, Love goes on and will never end between friends, family and the kind hearted people I have not met but have given and continue to give so generously.
