Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

I am running London Marathon in 2022 in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Between now and October 2022, I have several challenges planned as I am keen for this to be exactly that; a challenge. Starting in April, I will run the Manchester Marathon.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for Motor Neurone Disease, however, the funds raised throughout this period will, no doubt, give hope to those suffering with the condition and much needed care and support for them and their families.

Motor Neurone Disease is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord; our bodies way of controlling movement. MND attacks the nerves that create movement, resulting in muscles no longer functioning. MND can leave sufferers locked inside a failing body, unable to move, talk, swallow and, eventually, breathe. Motor Neurone Disease can affect up to 5000 people in the UK at any one time, with a further 6 being diagnosed with MND each day. However, those numbers stretch much further and wider as this condition has such an impact upon families and friends.

However, the courage, resilience and selflessness shown by people suffering with MND has been beyond inspiring. We only have to look at the efforts of Rob Burrow, Stephen Darby and Doddle Weir, to name a few, to see that funds raised now may not help their immediate fight against MND but someone in the future may benefit from their fundraising. It has been heartwarming to see the response of those diagnosed with MND as, more often than not, they respond with dignity and a desire to make a positive impact. In essence, that is why I am running the  Manchester and London Marathon; to pave a more positive future for those diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and show my support for everybody affected by what is the cruelest of conditions.

I would be so grateful for your support and any donation that you are able to make.

Thank you for making a difference to the lives of those living with MND,

Jamy
